Fleet and Truck Driver Risk Assessments
For the fleet and truck driver running late on a delivery or for a meeting, time pressure places distracting internal and external demands on driving performance. Cranfield University research has shown that not all drivers are at equal risk of being involved in a crash. A relatively small percentage are responsible for a significant number of at-work crashes. Safety measures are most effective when directed at high-risk targets. The Fleet Driver Risk Index™ and the Truck Driver Risk Index™ identify these high-risk characteristics and our clients use the results to implement targeted countermeasures and interventions.
Emergency Services Driver Risk Assessments
Firefighting is an inherently risky and stressful occupation and the fire service provides high quality training in the driving skills required to deal with incidents. Research undertaken by the Driving Research Group at Cranfield University has shown that the behavioural and emotional responses to driving a fire appliance can increase the risk of being involved in a work-related road collision for some individuals. Driving an appliance can be stressful and affect a driver’s ability to cope by interfering with hazard monitoring skills and provoking emotional responses.
The Fire Appliance Driver Risk Index™ is a reliable instrument to predict firefighter stress reactivity and coping for the delivery of bespoke coaching interventions by your in-house driver trainers.
Police Driver Risk Index™
The occupation of law enforcement has been identified as one of the most stressful in existence across the world with a combination of high workload, and intense time pressure. Police drivers on response and pursuit in the execution of police duty need to develop excellent driving skills as well as the ability to recognise when a heightened psychological and physiological response to a call may affect decision-making and driving performance.
Research undertaken by the Driving Research Group at Cranfield University led to the development of the Police Driver Risk Index™ as a valid and reliable instrument to predict police driver stress and coping responses. The Police Driver Risk Index™ is used in the delivery of bespoke coaching interventions by police driver trainers across several forces.
Ambulance Driver Risk Index™
NHS Ambulance Trusts make a significant investment in training for driving ambulance vehicles under demanding conditions. A driver risk assessment of driver behaviour is a cost effective and objective method for coaching safer behavioural and coping responses via in-house driver trainers. Research undertaken by the Driving Research Group at Cranfield University led to the construction of the Ambulance Driver Risk Index™ based on a qualitative analysis of interviews with ambulance drivers from several geographic regions in the UK and a large scale survey.
As part of their Level 4 Diploma in Emergency Response Ambulance, Driving Instruction (L4DERADI) Driving Instructors also attend our two day Facilitators Course to increase awareness of human factors in driving, understand the Goals for Driver Education Matrix, the psychometric properties of the Ambulance Driver Risk Index™ and how to use behaviour change techniques for influencing driver behaviour via coaching methods.

Bus Driver Risk Index™
Driving for a bus or coach is a stressful occupation that comes with added risks such as distraction from passengers and driving for several hours in a built-up environment. Research undertaken by the Driving Research Group at Cranfield University has shown that the behavioural and emotional responses to driving a bus or coach can increase the risk of being involved in a work-related road collision for some individuals.
The Bus Driver Risk Index™ has been developed based on several studies with thousands of bus and coach drivers. It is a reliable and valid instrument to predict bus and coach stress reactivity and coping. We train your driving instructors on how to deliver targeted coaching interventions based on the individualised Bus Driver Risk Index™ report.

Assessment, recruitment and selection form a major part of an organization’s overall resourcing strategies, which identifies and secures the people needed for an organization to survive and succeed. Selection is the process of making the choice of the most suitable applicant from a pool of applicants recruited to fill the driver job vacancy. Selection involves the use of one or more methods to assess an applicant’s suitability in order to make the correct selection decision. Research at Cranfield University led to the development of the Selection Driver Risk Index™ as a valid and reliable measure to predict driver stress and coping responses as a new recruit.
